The Shares module manages share capital for SACCOs, cooperatives, and member-based organisations — share accounts, transactions, dividends, and shareholder meetings.

Administration Setup

Before using shares operationally, configure in Administration → Shares:

Share Accounts

Creating a Share Account

  1. Navigate to Shares → Share Accounts
  2. Click Create Share Account
  3. Select the client and share product
  4. Submit

Share Account Details

Share Transactions

Purchase

A member buys shares, increasing their holding:

  1. Open the share account
  2. Click Purchase Shares
  3. Enter the number of shares or amount
  4. Submit — GL entries are created automatically

Redemption

A member sells/redeems shares:

  1. Open the share account
  2. Click Redeem Shares
  3. Enter the number of shares
  4. Submit — funds are credited to the member's deposit account

Transfer

Transfer shares between members within the same organisation.

Dividends

Dividend Lifecycle

  1. Declaration — The board declares a dividend (amount per share or percentage)
  2. Allocation — The system calculates each member's dividend based on their shareholding
  3. Distribution — Dividends are paid out (credited to deposit accounts or issued as cheques)

Each step creates corresponding GL journal entries.

Creating a Dividend Event

  1. Navigate to Shares → Dividends → Dividend Events
  2. Click Create Dividend Event
  3. Set the declaration date, dividend rate, and qualifying period
  4. Submit
  5. Run the allocation process to calculate per-member amounts
  6. Approve and distribute

Shareholder Meetings

Record and track shareholder meetings:

  • Meeting date, type (AGM, EGM, special), and venue
  • Attendance tracking
  • Resolutions passed
  • Minutes and documents
