Share Product Flags

Share products in Pinkapple are behavior-driven. The system does not assume behavior from the share type name alone.

Use this page when reviewing why a share product allows or blocks transfers, pledges, withdrawals, dividends, certificates, voting, or lending-related restrictions.

Where To Configure

Use these administration pages together:

  • Shares -> Setup -> Products to configure the product and its editable behavior.
  • Shares -> Registry -> Accounts to confirm how product behavior affects holder accounts.
  • Shares -> Capital to test transactions, pledges, calls, withdrawals, and capital movements.
  • Shares -> Distributions -> Dividends to test dividend behavior.
  • Accounting -> Setup to connect approved share events to finance accounts and posting rules.

Share Type Behavior

Each share type defines the standard behavior expected for that class of shares. It controls which product behaviors are allowed, which are enabled by default, which are required, and which can be changed during product setup.

Product Behavior

At product setup, the user first selects a share type. Pinkapple then shows the behavior available for that type.

The product form includes a behavior and integration section that lets administrators:

  • review inherited behavior from the selected type;
  • enable or disable product-level options where allowed;
  • set behavior values such as calculation methods, limits, payment modes, or eligibility rules;
  • preview the effective operating behavior before saving.

Main Behavior Groups

Pinkapple organizes share behavior around these areas:

  • Identity: product class, currency, par value, and product definition.
  • Holder eligibility: member, client, employee, age, KYC, or segment requirements.
  • Transfer: whether shares can move between holders and what approval is required.
  • Exit and withdrawal: whether holders can redeem, withdraw, exit, or receive refunds.
  • Acquisition and contribution: how purchases, allotments, recurring contributions, and capital calls behave.
  • Vesting: whether units become available over time or after conditions are met.
  • Governance: whether the shares grant voting, meeting, or resolution rights.
  • Lending: whether shares can be pledged or used for collateral policy.
  • Dividend: eligibility, calculation basis, pool source, payout mode, withholding, and reinvestment behavior.

Behavior Preview

The product form includes a preview that summarizes:

  • enabled workflows;
  • account balances or components that matter;
  • dividend treatment;
  • governance rights;
  • lending and restriction implications;
  • pricing, tax, and accounting dependencies.

Use this preview before approving or activating a product. If the preview does not match policy, review the selected share type or product values before saving.

Type First, Product Second

The expected operating model is:

  1. Review the share type taxonomy.
  2. Create a share product from the appropriate type.
  3. Change only the product behavior that the type allows.
  4. Use the preview to confirm the final operating behavior.
  5. Complete pricing, tax, and accounting setup before production use.

This keeps share behavior consistent across products of the same class while still allowing controlled product specialization.

Common Examples

SACCO Mandatory Capital

Typical settings include:

  • transfer disabled or approval-controlled;
  • notice-based exit;
  • recurring contribution enabled;
  • voting enabled on a one-member-one-vote basis;
  • loan multiplier or pledge policy enabled;
  • dividend classification set to a member-patronage or share-days method.

Preference Shares

Typical settings include:

  • transfer limited to the same class or approval-required;
  • dividend classification set to priority;
  • computation method set to fixed rate, priority pool, or hybrid method;
  • redemption rights enabled where relevant.

Employee Shares

Typical settings include:

  • employee status required;
  • vesting enabled;
  • transfer restricted;
  • dividend eligibility controlled by vested-unit rules;
  • exit treatment tied to employment status.

Pricing And Tax Configuration

Pricing and tax setup are separate:

  • Pricing Profile: fees, rates, valuation, and pricing behavior.
  • Share Tax Configuration: withholding, capital gains tax, transfer tax, stamp duty, or other share-domain tax behavior.

They are not interchangeable. If pricing behavior is enabled, link an approved pricing profile. If taxation is enabled, link an approved tax configuration whose effective dates cover the activity period.

Dividend Behavior

Important dividend behavior includes classification, computation method, pool source, eligible-unit basis, exclusion rules, priority rank, payment modes, tax treatment, and reinvestment rules.

The shares module manages the event and allocation history. Pricing continues to own pricing rates and tiers, while share tax configuration owns share-domain tax treatment.
