Health Inpatient, Nursing, And Theatre

Inpatient and theatre workflows extend the same patient, encounter, order, stock, billing, and audit primitives used by OPD and diagnostics.

ADT

ADT covers admission, transfer, leave, discharge, and bed assignment.

RecordPurpose
AdmissionCreates inpatient context and links patient, encounter, facility, ward, provider, payer, and admission reason.
Bed assignmentLinks patient to ward, room, and bed operational location or resource.
Patient movementTracks transfers between wards, beds, theatre, imaging, or temporary locations.
DischargeCaptures discharge disposition, clinical summary, follow-up, medication plan, and closure readiness.

Admission, discharge, and bed assignment numbers should be system-generated from the configured numbering templates.

Ward And Bed Board

The bed board should use operational locations and resource capacity, not hardcoded ward UI rows.

Expected board views:

  • ward occupancy by unit
  • bed status by room
  • reserved, occupied, cleaning, blocked, and available beds
  • patient movement timeline
  • expected discharge and transfer alerts
  • bed-night billing readiness

Nursing

Nursing workspaces should cover:

  • nursing assessments
  • care plans
  • nursing tasks
  • flowsheets
  • medication administration support
  • handovers
  • safety events
  • inpatient observations

Flowsheets should use coded concepts and value sets so they can feed chart graphs, reports, HMIS indicators, and audit.

Theatre And Procedures

Theatre covers:

  • procedure orders
  • theatre cases
  • team assignment
  • consent readiness
  • safety checklists
  • anaesthesia records
  • intra-operative events
  • operative notes
  • consumables and implants
  • PACU recovery
  • critical events

Consumables and implants must create or enforce linked Inventory movements. Theatre and procedure charges must flow into Health visit-charge traces, then Billing invoices.

Inpatient Charging

Inpatient charges can be event-based, daily, hourly, scheduled, or manually reviewed.

Charge typeTrigger
Admission feeAdmission creation or approval.
Bed-night feeScheduled daily billing cycle or discharge closeout.
Hourly observation or room feeTime-based billing cycle using admission/location timestamps.
